Snoring is a common occurrence in many Canadian bedrooms. It’s caused by the vibration of air over the soft palate (back of your throat) while you sleep. As we get older, we are more likely to snore, and certain behaviours like, alcohol consumption, or sleeping on your back may cause snoring to be more extreme.
How serious is snoring? Well, it may indicate a bigger issue called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (or OSA). Most people with Sleep Apnea snore, but not everyone who snores has Sleep Apnea so no need to panic, but if you snore you should ask yourself a few other questions….
Do I feel tired during the day?
Am I overweight, or gaining weight?
Do I have high blood pressure?
Do I work in a safety sensitive profession?
If the answer is yes to any of the above you should probably consider talking to your doctor about Sleep Apnea.
